compost
Hi, I'm new and live in the mid to high desert south of Tucson. We had frost about a week ago. I looked online and there are lots of "compost" brands at the DIY stores. I understand that I need 5 different kinds. Could someone please recommend some good brands that might be available in my area that are really organic and don't contain sewage sludge? Thank you!

Re: compost
Welcome to the forum from Ohio! The main thing you need to watch for in the types of compost available to you is the ingredients in the bags. Check them carefully. Many are nothing but compost wood chips and peat moss. But, there are some good ones in the market. One of the great resources you have there in Tuscon is Tank's Green Stuff, which available either in bags or bulk by the cubic yard. The bags are also available up north in Phoenix where my son lived, but the company is in Tuscon. Another source of good compost is Nature's Care Really Good Compost which is sold at some Home Depot stores, but not all. Try to ensure that some of the compost mixture includes composted manure, such a Black Kow or Timberline Cow Manure and Compost, both available at Lowe's.
You don't have to have a perfect mixture of the 5 types of compost, but the more different types you have the better the soil.

Hey Sun Seeker, welcome to the forum from Coastal NC.
You are asking the Million $ question. We ALL struggle with that when we start...heck I am still struggling with it. There are lots of threads about compost on this site so I suggest you start there. Most folks here will tell you to start making your own...lots of info here on that too.
Good luck and post photos.
