Thanks Kekejan for the eCard this morning.

My CT scan has to be rescheduled due to an equipment problem. Hope they don't delay too long.

Nothing worse than being put on hold at the last minute., TD.

@trolleydriver

I haven't been around for a while and just saw this post.

My Thoughts and Prayers are with you as you go through treatment. Hope they get the machine fixed A.S.A.P.  and put you at the top of the list for an appointment.

If you have to have a diversion, then a drive to the Canadian Mississippi River and C.P. is a Great choice!

Thank you.  For our American friends the "Canadian Mississippi River" can be seen in a photo I posted yesterday.  Very Happy

For all of its faults our health care system seems to be working ok for me. If I had not been indecisive about which treatment path (surgery vs radiation) I could have been starting radiation in the first full week of October. Not bad considering the diagnosis was less than one ago.

Hi TD, I've been on vacation and catching up on the posts. Wow, this situation is one big "punch-in-the gut". I was a CT tech and the CT procedure is a piece of cake, so don't lose any sleep over that. That, and the bone scan, will help point you to the best possible approach to treatment. The radiation treatments are, for the most part not what they used to be. If you opt for that avenue of treatment, IMRT is the most precise way target the prostrate without the negative side effects of the past. Ask around to see if the radiation oncologist uses that particular modality, and if not where? Radioactive seed implants are also a consideration, but that's based on if the radiation oncologist sees an advantage to treating the tumor directly from the inside. Then there's the surgical approach to consider.....it's overwhelming, I hope that you find clarity once the smoke clears, and you can make a decision based on facts, not fear- no regrets! Anyhow, my thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope for the best. FIGHT THIS THING TD!!!

Thank you for your post Yardslave. Not worried about the CT scan and the bone scan was easy. Just want to get the scans done so I can get to a decision. I know the radiation machines used at our hospital are state-of-the-art Elekta Linear Accelerators but not sure what the treatment delivery will be in my case. I've been assuming IMRT but need to ask the question. I am not a candidate for brachytherapy seed implants.

The bone scan was mostly clear but there was something that needed further investigation so they did x-rays. Still waiting for results from the x-rays.  The CT scan was easy but still waiting for results.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) I go in for a radiation simulation and to get tattooed for treatment. On October 15th I will start radiation treatment (for 20 sessions). I will also start Androgen Deprivation Therapy this week (for 2 years).  Not looking forward to the side effects of these treatments but no choice if they will save my life.

Last Wednesday I started taking Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) pills. On Sunday morning I ended up in the ER because if a rash caused by an allergic reaction to the pills. Both the ER doctor and my radiation oncologist advised me to stop taking the pills. I now have to start my ADT injections earlier than expected and will get the first one tommorow. Radiation Treatment (RT) starts on Tuesday Oct 15th.

OMG! TD, that's awful. I went through something similar before my ovarian tumor surgery. No fun! What helped get me through my ordeals was counting all the experiences I would never have to go through again. I'd play little head games with myself -- got through that one, and that one, and that one, etc. I know it's silly, but it helped make me feel like I was doing something, just by getting through it. uphill and win
