Help - Driving the Mississippi River this week - Big Mistake?

It's with just a little shame that I abuse the Forum with this post. I will delete it after I get some info.

It's time for my late spring road trip. This time we made reservations to fly to St. Louis, MO (see family) and then drive south down the Mississippi to New Orleans. The weather shows rain, lightening, thunderstorms and flood warnings. What a Face

Should we bite the bullet and change our tickets to another area of the U.S.? Visit the Mississippi drainage states another time?

He probably isn't fazed by the LA rain like we will be. Someone from Arkansas mentioned the week long rain so just watch for us on the News. We will be the couple from California, stranded in their rental car, floating down some flooded creek.
