The first is definitely a speedwell, but it looks more like Persian speedwell to me than Corn speedwell.

I also see chickweed in that photo, and what might be a vetch seedling on the lower left.

I think the second is Red Dead-Nettle, but see the comments in the article about the similar Henbit Dead-Nettle:

The red dead-nettle invades Nashville gardens as well.

Certainly a weed in the garden -- but a plant to consider making room for in the flower beds as it can be an important source of nectar for honeybees in the early spring when there aren't many other flowers.

We always called it ground ivy or creeping jenny...bees love it.  Not particularly disruptive.  I leave it.  Unless it is somewhere it isn't where it is Supposed to be!

I am happy to know that it is that beneficial.  It is also beneficial in that it "grows like a weed" in our yard and provides a lot of good green material every time we mow the lawn.

The one big problem is that there is plenty of this weed in our yard, but no honeybees.  We have hornets, wasps, and an abundance of carpenter bees.  We have ignorant neighbors that use Ortho poisons to kill carpenter bees, but if it wasn't for these fine friends, we would be outside in the morning with tiny paintbrushes pollinating everything ourselves.
