On This Day In History...
What happened on this day in history?
One fact per member per day please
The larger-than-life comedic star John Candy dies suddenly of a heart attack on this day in 1995, at the age of 43.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
March 4, 1933, at the height of the Great Depression, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was inaugurated as the 32nd POTUS. He outlined his New Deal as a massive expansion of the federal government to secure employment and lead the country out of the financial abyss.

Wikepedia says ... "Aykroyd was born on Canada Day (July 1), 1952 at Ottawa General Hospital[2] in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.[3] He grew up in Ottawa, Canada's capital, where his father, Samuel Cuthbert Peter Hugh Aykroyd, a civil engineer, worked as a policy adviser to Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau."
His father was a policy adviser to PM Pierre Trudeau. Interestingly, Pierre's son, Justin Trudeau, is our current Prime Minister.
Well I sure got this thread running down a rabbit hole and off topic!

I was really shocked to find out Bill Shatner was Canadian. WOT!?? I though he was from Iowa. Oh, wait, that was Kirk. Ha!
Anyway, back to the topic, I remember that day when John Candy left us. We were sad... such a great comedic talent.

Get those hips movin...
On this day in 1963, the Hula-Hoop, a hip-swiveling toy that became a huge fad across America when it was first marketed by Wham-O in 1958, is patented by the company’s co-founder, Arthur “Spud” Melin. An estimated 25 million Hula-Hoops were sold in its first four months of production alone.

"the Confederation Congress established March 4, 1789, as the date to begin operating a new government under the Constitution."

On a lighter note, 1956 - King Kong (1933) premiered on television in the U.S. I was 7 years old. I remember watching it at my cousin's in a black and white TV.
