We planted, harvested, braided, and dried our garlic and have really been enjoying it.  But now it is beginning ti turn brown and go bad.  How can we preserve it?  I was thinking of clipping the heads from the braids putting them in a freezer bag and throwing them in the freezer?  Taht work??  go ahead and peel them first?  or can them some how?  Need advice please help.

Thanks yolos I will continue researching but I guess I better start in the fridge and move to the freezer later.  It's almost impossible to dry stuff in our humid heat before I plant this year I have to see if I can preserve it.

Cappy ,
Due to the temperature & humidity where you are . If it is all year round could you plant a dozen garlic cloves once a month , every month of the year ?

If so , would that solution give you say a dozen or so bulbs a month to use so you won't need to bother about storing them for long ?

That sounds like a good idea. Anyone grow garlic this way?

Sadly it does not grow in our summers.  We have to plant now to harvest before it burns up.
I did research all morning and I think I will put it in teh freezer.  It changes the taste but they should last till spring that way

Hi Cappy,
I have made garlic butter and wrapped it then put in the freezer, similar to this !
You could also partially freeze then cut into coin size pieces, then continue to freeze.  This way you don't have to chip away later on at the frozen log.  Enjoy!!

/\ If you do this, it must be stored in the fridge, not at room temperature, because of the risk of Botulism. (Freezing small batches might be safer than storing a larger quantity in the fridge since there would be less out of fridge time per batch whilst serving.)

Garlic must be cured after harvest and then it should last between 10-12 months as is . Was it thoroughly cured? Preserving garlic in oil is an unsafe practice. If you must, dehydrate it and then powder it.
