Jimmy, sometimes I find one sleeping in, on a blossom in the morning. If you try to nudge them awake with a finger, they will stick a leg out to say, "Stop!" Late sleepers, those bumblebees.

Before the rain and wind settled in for the day, bees and butterflies were busy on one of my flowering shrubs working their butts off. Good to see them. Then the rain and wind started and it was pretty cold for the rest of the day.

LOL, I don't know about your neck of the woods, but the bumblebees and honey bees around here are pretty docile. It's like they have a "you don't bother me, and I won't bother you" policy. It's the yellow jackets and wasps that are nasty. They will get right in your face and be very aggressive.jimmy cee wrote:Aint no finger of mine gonna be near that fellahammock gal wrote:Jimmy, sometimes I find one sleeping in, on a blossom in the morning. When I found this little guy or gal, I thought they were dead, not moving at all. So I tried touching it gently to see if it would just fall off the cosmos, but instead, it just stuck out it's leg to fend me off. I was quite surprised to say the least. Since then, I've noticed bumblebees "sleeping" in blossoms many mornings, especially if it's cool out. I've never been stung when trying to tickle them awake, but they will all stick their leg out like that, like they're saying, "Not yet, too early..give me another 5 minutes!"

So cute, hg. Humble bumbles are like pets in these parts. I LOVE seeing the Big Granddaddy ones. You wonder how on earth those little wings can keep that huge body afloat.
