Whiteflies Empty Whiteflies

Post  Bart Thu Jun 09, 2016 12:40 pm

Hi Fellow Sufferers....

Well, if it isn't one thing it's another, Whiteflies.

I'm deploying yellow sticky traps and earthworm castings..... Do they do any good?

Please advise how to rid the problem.

Thanks
Bart

I was told by an entomologist that they overwinter in the soil, so a soil soak in the fall would be needed. I used Neem oil spray on the ornamentals and it really reduced the number of adults. I need to repeat some late evening when the bees are back home. I "may" have to spray some veggie plants and cat nip. Sad

Neem Oil on Lettuce? Is that wise? Won't it make the lettuce taste bad? And I heard that Neem Oil can harm tomatoes.

Whiteflies Empty Try these?

Maybe this will help?  Not sure what you've done...we don't have them that I am aware of.

Good luck, Bart!

I would definitely get some Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap, or use Ivory soap and see if that helps.  When I Say Ivory, you need to buy the bar soap called Ivory, because the liquid stuff is detergent, different animal.  Shave it off, dissolve in water, and use as spray.  I use an old dish detergent squirt bottle with some force.

It works, but you have to be attentive and diligent!

No, not on lettuce or anything else ready to eat raw.  I was thinking more of the fruit bearing plants  like bean vines, pepper, tomato, sweet potato vines. carrot tops. . . I think I will try Dr. Bronner's liquid peppermint soap first. I definitely have tiny green grasshoppers now. Dang, what next ??
