How do you prune your tomatoes?
I was curious how you guys prune your tomatoes? My father-in-law just pulls the suckers off, but Mel's book reads like I should be doing more than just pulling the suckers.
Any thoughts?

Re: How do you prune your tomatoes?
I grew toms a couple of years ago in a SFG and pulled all the suckers. They still were too big for my SFG. I now grow in a row 2 feet apart using the "Florida weave" for support. I dig a big hole for some and put mel's mix plus some extra goodies in and plant the toms and mulch. I also have some planted in in 10 gal grow bags. I let 2 or 3 suckers go per plant. So to answer your question, I would pinch off all the suckers on a indeterminate tomato in a square foot garden.

This very topic was recently discussed in another thread. You can find it here: https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/seed-exchange-and-growing-info-f29/tomato-pruning-t1490.htm?highlight=tomatoes
Lots of useful links, diagrams and videos in the thread. Enjoy.

Here's post in another thread with a picture of the Florida weave trellis method:

Re: How do you prune your tomatoes?
Thank you for the link, patti! That's pretty cool We have metal square tomato supports, although they grow right out the top of them.
Re: How do you prune your tomatoes?
I pinch off the small ones and cut the larger ones with a knife or scissors. I cut off a couple today and put them in water hoping they will develop roots.
