Freeze warning in Illinois tonight
I just went out and harvested some spinach leaves and a few leaves from my bib lettuce to put on my burgers tonight. Weatherman says 27 degrees tonight here in SW Illinois. I'm so afraid I'm going to lose my beautiful peach, pear and apple blossoms tonight.
You know, we as gardeners, decide when to plant our crops. Not so with the fruit trees. God decides when the fruit trees will bloom.
This apple tree was here when I moved here in 1988.

Yeah, we have been reeling here from a prematurely warm early spring and now seasonal or lower temps....sucks.
Hope your fruit gets out alive! My pear isn't blooming yet. It has been COLD for 2 weeks.

Thanks for your concern Scorpio. I think were going to be ok now. I woke up at 3:00 a.m. and checked the weather. It's a sweltering 37 degrees. The weather man missed it by 10 degrees. Go figure.

Oh that's good to know. As a rule, you're previous nites weather is usually my current nites weather. I'll cover anyway as they are calling for snow in my neck of the woods, but this is where them being wrong is peachy with me.
None of my fruit trees have bloomed yet.

I spoke to quickly. The temp went from 37 to 32 really quick. Sun is coming up now.
