Re: Celery & Brussels Sprouts & Garlic
I've never grown either one before this year but I think I'm going to put one brussel sprout per square foot once they are ready. I can plant cool crops around them while they're small, like lettuce or radishes.
I think I'll plant the celery 4 or 5 per square.
Hopefully a more experienced gardener will come along and help us out here.

One Brussels sprout plant per square. Celery, 2-4 per square.

Betty, There is a handy spacing reference in the All New Square Foot Gardening book.
Re: Celery & Brussels Sprouts & Garlic
Yes, I saw that, thank you.
Unfortunately, garlic, Brussels sprouts & celery were not mentioned in there.

Re: Celery & Brussels Sprouts & Garlic
In past years I've put about 100 bulbs into a 4x6 bed. This year I spaced them a bit farther apart hoping for bigger garlic. I seem to remember just a few more than 80 bulbs per 4x6. Or about every 3-4" apart and offset. Ish.BettyCrackhead wrote:Great, thank you guys! What about garlic? How many/square?

Camprn, 80 in a 4x6 foot bed sounds more like six inch spacing. You've got 24 squares if you used all of then and a four inch spacing is nine per square, which in your bed would be 216 plants?!?

Re: Celery & Brussels Sprouts & Garlic
Hmm, well frankly that too much over thinking for me. I go out and place the bulbs every four inches until I run out of room, or bulbs. This past fall into ran out of room before I ran out of bulbs and I only had to 110 bulbs.No_Such_Reality wrote:Camprn, 80 in a 4x6 foot bed sounds more like six inch spacing.
