I hung my freshly picked garlic in the greenhouse for a few days just to keep the vampire's out of my sweet potatoes. Hope it works:

I think I should not have planted this in my sfg. It is a Hopi (old original) squash:

Do vampires suck the juice out of sweet potatoes?

I don't know. I have been told they like to 'vine' in.

OK can anyone comment on the squash, it is so large that it is consuming a 4x8 bed. BTW I think the zombies are involved.

Be prepared-it gets worse. One year I warned my closest neighbor to be on the lookout for my vining squash that was headed his way, and that I expected them to engulf his house the following week. What a Face

(His house is over 300 feet away!)

If your Hopi is a bush type squash, you can corral the inboard sides with netting or fencing and train the plant to grow towards the outside of the box. When the squash is in a corner square, I can keep a squash confined to 2 squares.

I hadn't thought about it, but mine is safe too!  I pulled up a bunch of garlic a few weeks ago and they're drying in the greenhouse as well.

I'll sleep so much better at night  Wink

I guess I better hang the garlic braid up over the back door.

I am glad that we can all keep our greenhouses safer.

The Hopi squash plant is from seeds I purchased three years ago. I planted two the first year and they both died so I don't know whether it is a bush or a vine. Yesterday I looked and saw what I think is the start of a runner and kind of pointed it away from the other plants and toward the edge of the box. All I remember is that it produces large orange squash and reported to be quite good. Right now it is overwhelming 8 squares, one haldona melon plant and 6 of my leftover cuc's that I couldn't throw away.
