Woooo Hooooo first picking of green beans
The yard finally dried out enough to head out to our main garden box. Our bush beans were ready for the first picking and full of flours and small beans. The are destined for the black iron pot with potato and onions from a friends garden. Add that to some smoked sausage and Cajun spice and our first garden green bean feast is on.

I'm jealous but happy that yours are growing so great. My beans are still growing. Hopefully in a week or two ill be picking some.

What variety of beans do you grow?
I did real well with the Rattlesnake beans earlier this year. I'm trying the yard long beans but about half of them were cut down in the hail. Mother Nature shoots as straight as Annie Oakley did.

These we have been growing for years are contender bush beans we plant them 4 to the foot. They grow fast and we get several pickings of a dish pan full.
Re: Woooo Hooooo first picking of green beans
Rattlesnake beans are just now blooming. Dragon tongues are getting close. Florida must have an earlier "summer" if you are already done with them.

Re: Woooo Hooooo first picking of green beans
Very enjoyable video. Here in California, veggies are not smothered but served rather crisp. Adjusting for that, it still sounds like a good comfort food. I never thought of potatoes and green beans in the same dish.
Re: Woooo Hooooo first picking of green beans
Oh yea, a southern tradition. New potatoes and green beans and ham hock. I am not a Cajun spice eater but the addition of the sausage looked pretty good. My husband liked his beans cooked way down to almost mush, but I like mine tender and just soft enough to eat.sanderson wrote: I never thought of potatoes and green beans in the same dish.

This is making me hungry for creamed peas and new potatoes.
And gosh, I haven't even planted my beans yet.

Me either! It'll be another two and a half weeks before I even get the beans in the ground Cool video, though, Cappy! My hubby loathes green beans (and yet I plant so many of them.....) especially when they're crispy, but I bet he'd love this dish. Thanks for the idea!
Re: Woooo Hooooo first picking of green beans
I'm hoping to get my corn planted next week, after the rain in the forecast has passed. Guessing about 2 or 3 weeks after that I'll be able to put in my beans.
