What media should I fill a new raised bed with? (will be growing spinach or maybe squash) I have read of putting landscaping cloth at the bottom, then a layer of newspaper before adding media. Is this a good idea? Would appreciate all advice. Thanks!

Welcome Spud from Coastal NC.
I would say use Mel's Mix. That is one of the keys to Square Foot Gardening (SFG). Mel's mix consists of 1/3 Vermiculite, 1/3 Peat moss & 1/3 Blended compost.
Do you have or have you read the All New Square Foot Gardening Book?
If not, check it out of the library and read it. SFG is a "Revolutionary way to grow more in less space" (quote off the book cover )
And I believe lots of people here use the landscaping cloth, newspaper, cardboard, etc.
Also some of use have made Table Top beds that are off the ground and have either a plywood bottom or use 1/2" hardware cloth.
Again Welcome to the forum. Every one here is really great and helpful so read through the different posts and ask lots of questions.

Re: New at SFG - If I wanted to start with a 4x6 bed.
The standard bed seems to be 4 x 4 but SFG fits into any size space to make the best use if it.
My personal size preference is 3 x 6 mainly because I am a small person and three feet wide enables me to reach the middle of the bed without falling into it. Six feet enabled my to cut 12 feet lengths into 6 x 3 without any wasted wood or too much cutting.
Any, Spud , I think you will enjoy it here.
