That was a fascinating read Kim. Thanks for posting that. I only wish that the author would have provided more illustrations... my knowledge of plant names is very limited. However, image web searches were very helpful.

Well, the thing is this article speaks about soil. Mel's Mix is not soil.

I don't care what it's called, where it comes from, or anything else for that matter.
All I know is, while reading the book S.F.G. I knew, the moment Mel's Mix was described to me that it would be perfect for me.
It is...it is....it is.... There is nothing I'll be using in the future other than Mel's Mix for everything I plant and grow...
It's proven itself to me and I love it.
Heck I find I cannot even abbreviate the word Me'ls Mix to MM any more...almost like Christmas, I can never use the Xmas word...
All I know is, while reading the book S.F.G. I knew, the moment Mel's Mix was described to me that it would be perfect for me.
It is...it is....it is.... There is nothing I'll be using in the future other than Mel's Mix for everything I plant and grow...

When I began SFG, I started VERY small. Just two 4x4 beds (and my daughter had a 4x4 for flowers). Eventually I was gifted 10 EarthBoxes. I added two more EarthBoxes last year. I'm still a pretty small operation, but I've gotten some bountiful results.
Since Mel's Mix can be expensive in the beginning (just establishing a base), I was pretty stingy when it came to flowers.
Now, I have Mel's Mix established in all my beds. I'm mainly just adding compost to keep things well amended.
The point I want to make is that I now have some financial wiggle room when it comes to flowers and Mel's Mix. The base beds are all established and only require maintenance. I am planting all my wife's flowers and houseplants in Mel's Mix and the results are pretty outstanding. Like you, I'm never looking back. This stuff really works!

I agree, MM is great. I had a zinnia in one bed and it grew to 5' x 5.' I also use it in all pots and buckets.Windmere wrote:
