'Semi' Tropical Gamble
I say this too often but the problem with semi tropical is the semi part. Our plum trees are a fine example of this so this begins the chronicle of this years gamble.

Re: 'Semi' Tropical Gamble
Cappy,
Our Loquats finally came in, we harvested about a gallon of fruit, might be another gallon ripening on the tree. Nothing like your haul but getting better every each year. We have enough to make Loquat jam which we really like. Last year Ann made a fantastic Loquat up-side down cake. Someday I'll get enough to try the wine making.
The Mango tree has set fruit so we'll see how big the harvest is in July-Aug.
A friend of ours is from Slidell La., so I shared you gumbo recipe with her. She said that was close to what they used to make. She is a great cook & gardener so it must come from the area.
Really enjoy your blog site.

Re: 'Semi' Tropical Gamble
I noticed we lost a few fruit this morning on the north side of the trees to frost they are still full though and still green about the size of the first joint of my little finger we should start picking in a month or so Lord willin' We can a few quarts in sight syrup just for cake and coblers. Here is some info about Peggy's birthday cake this year It may look familiar to ya.

Re: 'Semi' Tropical Gamble
We are either lower 9 or upper 10 it literally depends on who ya ask. I quit worying about it and call us semi tropical now cause we are below the 30th parallel and thats what I was taught in school course it dont matter at all what ya call it, we can grow tropical stuff just not every year hence the semi part.
Re: 'Semi' Tropical Gamble
