Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I took some of the recently harvested tomatoes and cucumbers and turned them into Gazpacho for a cool lunchtime soup. I followed a Vitamix recipe.

Sautéed green peppers and banana peppers went into a sausage, pepper, onion crock pot meal for tonight. Also the tomato sauce for this and extra diced toms were from the garden.

Just made a cucumber (from the SFG) plus onion, sugar, pepper, vinegar salad. Needs to sit in the refrigerator for a day and then it should be really good.

My mom makes that often, but she adds thinly sliced tomato to it. YUM! Great on sandwiches, salad or as a side.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Brussel sprout plant leaves in my morning smoothie. I used a lot of them and didn't notice any flavor except blueberries, so they must be very mild, like Dino kale.

This morning, sauteed banana peppers with cheesy scrambled eggs and fresh dehydrated ground turmeric sprinkled all over.

LM, are you growing the turmeric? If so, where did you get your starter rhizomes?
Earlier this year I tried growing turmeric from fresh root I purchased at Trader Joe's, but a chipmunk dug up most of the tubers and gnawed holes in them. I replanted what was left of the nodes, but they must have been too damaged to sprout. My local Trader Joe's no longer carries fresh turmeric, so I need to find another source.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I don't grow turmeric. I go to a natural market. They posted a sign saying it comes from Hawaii. Don't know if they ship from the ohio store but here is their website anyway- http://bexleynaturalmarket.org/ The quality seems to be very good, no wrinkles on the skin at all.
UPDATE just took another look at their website and they now have a local Ohio grower of fresh young turmeric, here is their facebook

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
2 squares of edamame soy beans, a yellow crookneck squash, frying pepper, hot peppers, and early long purple eggplants (some good ones and some over-mature ones I missed.) Cooked up with some store vegetables (carrots, onions, oyster mushrooms) into a stir-fry.

Nice Beetles.
I harvested four Acorn Squash from our regular veggie garden. Mrs TD cooked a couple of small ones for dinner. Tasted wonderful.

I had to go make cheesy scrambled eggs with turmeric and peppers for breakfast today after reading LM's post.
And because of CC I may need to buy some blueberries because I do have Brussels sprout plants I ought to be trimming the leaves off of... What else do you put in your smoothies, CC?
Thanks for the compliment, TD. I'm not growing acorn squash this year since I can get them fairly reliably at the farmer's markets; I love to bake them with little breakfast sausages nestled in the cavities of the halves. But perhaps I'll take a cue of your mention of gazpacho... I already had cuke salad a few times within the last week, and as delicious as it is, I need a little break so I keep appreciating it.

HA! You'll be sorry you asked:
Tumeric, black pepper, cinnamon, ginger, protein either in the form of whey/ hemp / raw eggs (depending on what day it is), chia seeds, avocado, cuke or celery greens, green leafies, berries, pineapple, Stevia, Traders Green Powder.

A couple of the grandchildren were over for a visit this morning. Mrs TD allowed them to harvest some potatoes.
But grandma this is such hard work!!!
Get the dirt off.
The reward ... french fries

I love that they were rewarded for their labors. In my home growing up there was nothing in the world like Mom's french fries!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Patty pan squash! WOW! I didn't actually grow it. Our granddaugher's neighbor gave it to her and she gave it to me. Nobody in our family had ever tasted it. The timing was perfect, since I'm getting ready to place my final seed order of the year and I didn't want to waste my time on anything that might turn out like those yukky vine peaches.
I looked up how to cook them and found a recipe for slicing them, layering them with sea salt, basil, & butter, then baking in a covered dish. I have so much basil I was thrilled to find something else to do with it. The recipe sounded like a perfect candidate for my electric steamer, so that's what I used. I put it outside on the washing machine so I don't heat up the house.
Hubby was afraid the skins wouldn't be good, so I sliced off the ends before cooking to minimize the skins. Turns out the skins are thin and tender, so cutting off the ends wasn't necessary, but it gave us an excuse to try them raw. AWESOME! Altogether the whole family likes patty pan better then zucchini. YEE-HAH! WE HAVE ANOTHER WINNER! (It's definitely going on my seed order, even if it's too late to plant for this year.)

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
TD, I bet the grandkids learned something about the work that goes into making food.
CN, I like patty pans but hubby doesn't, so I don't bother growing them. I'm glad you found a new veggie to grow next year.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Started my day yesterday with a modified CC-smoothie using cucumber and Brussels sprouts leaves from the garden. I used pineapple juice instead of pineapple, and I added plain yogurt and coconut oil instead of the avocado (I gave up buying them at my usual place...I was wasting my money on rocks that never ripened, they just rotted from the inside out.) And I didn't add the TJ's green powder. Not pretty, but tasty! I found the texture was a bit much, lots of chewing... I'm guessing you have a high-powered blender. My old-fashioned Osterizer turned the Brussels sprouts leaves into small but not really 'drinkable' pieces.CapeCoddess wrote:BeetlesPerSqFt wrote:

Lunch included okra, tomatoes, the small cabbage from this spring, and what I think was a leek scape.
Dinner used 5 kale leaves.
Two spiders had to be escorted back outside; they think brassica greens make good roofs.

This morning sauteed minced garden garlic in some butter, steamed fresh picked swiss chard and mixed together with a little salt and pepper. I was in A Mood and for some reason it seemed delicious as a light breakfast.
