Matching Gardeners to Community Food Pantries - Amazing!!
This is a pretty cool article from Yahoo News about a guy who matches gardeners with pantries so excess produce can be donated. I went to the website and entered my zip code. I was amazed at how many pantries popped up on the map that were closed to my house (almost 30).

We have a wonderful garden/pantry sharing program. It's called a small town neighborhood.

That is so great! My garden is between seasons right now, but I hope my small garden produces enough for me to make some sort of contribution to a pantry in the near future. It won't take much, as there are only 2 of us.

Our small community (less than 2,000 people over a wide mountain area) has some very impoverish elements in it. Our church does the USDA food give away each month. If I ever had enough to pass along I know who to send it to, but I just bring it to church every Sunday and give what I have to several single parent families that appreciate the help to their budget.
It's no more work to feed 5 or 6 families as to feed just the two of us and it's such a joy to share

I would love to have enough to share. My chard/kale is the first time I have been able to share with just one neighbor, and still freeze some.

One Satsuma(a type of manderine) orange tree has given us over 40 shopping bags of fruit which we have shared with our friends and neighbors. Our navel oranges are ripe now and we have picked 30 or so and shared them as well, many things you plant will bare more than you can sue at the time and you can share them easily. We planted 2- 4ft trellises of cucumbers last year on the ends of our garden box. We canned over 40 qts of bread and butter pickles, we sue around 12-15 of them a year. The rest we trade or gift with our community and always receive their excess in return. The examples are too numerous to list. yesterday Peg went to town with a friend. She left with a bag of citrus and returned with 2 lbs of homemade smoked sausage. They have a smoke house we have citrus trees and thats how we roll
