I am just starting with the SFG and have the new book.  In reading some posts and replies I see that rhubarb is not really recommended  due to it's eventual size. That said I was planning a dedicated box for 1 or 2 plants and my question would be  depth and size of the box. My ground is hard clay type and  unless I opt for a 1/2 barrel until I get our new shed installed when I then can plant it in the ground near it & for get it  What a Face . I have a dedicated bed for my asparagus and was hoping to build this near it. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks  Twisted Evil

Disccopy, Welcome to the Forum!  glad you\'re here  Hopefully, someone with experience in growing rhubarb will answer your question on planting. One of the great things about SFG gardening in raised boxes is that you don't have to worry about the quality of the local dirt.

Hi disccopy.  Welcome from Atlanta, GA.

I don't have any rhubarb yet either, but am planning on putting some in a perennial box.  So I'll be watching this with interest.

I had rhubarb in half of a 4x8 bed with the other half strawberries. It took over and I have dug it out three times and some is still growing in the box. I had a small area in the middle of my SFG and so I took out my pick( hard clay and shale) and dug the biggest hole I could and put MM in and a little soil and for two years the rhubarb is very happy. I think rhubarb will grow any where.

I don't know about anyone else's experience, but I couldn't grow it in Orange, VA.  It's just too hot and humid, I think.  It grows great guns at my brother's in Michigan but I couldn't make it work here.  YMMV
