Paraffin
Does anyone use paraffin to seal jams and jellies? That was the way my Mother did it so I used to do it. I used any and all types of small glass jars for J/J as well as little Ball jars but re-using the lids!

Yes - I don't use paraffin either. And, I also don't use anything but regular canning jars. I want to be as safe as possible.

I did a couple years ago! The "prepper" version: tuna cans, coils of corrugated cardboard and paraffin with a bit of lavender to mask the tuna smell.
I have some left over and just wondered if anyone used it for J/J any more. Thinking more about it, why would I want to add a petroleum wax to my food?? I don't!
PS Sterno candles. That's the word I was looking for. For actual cooking without propane.

I have to get on my soapbox here. I don't like paraffin because it is a by-product of oil. Who wants to rub crude oil on their anything? I just double-checked myself to make certain I wasn't ranting accurately. A google search led to finding this:

- treat with kerosene: to treat something by saturating, impregnating, or coating it with kerosene or paraffin wax
The way it sounds here is even worse than I thought. No paraffin here for anything that touches my body, inside or out.
