compost bin liquid
my hubby started putting leaves and old prunnings in a n old water but and now six onths later there is a green liquid seeping out can i use this as a feed how uch should i dilute it and what will the coposition of it be ie nitrogen and what should i use it for ie flowers greens thanks for any help in advance di

Hi there, look up how to use compost tea. You would want to dilute it, but I cannot remember the ratio tea to water.

thanks for the info reading about compost tea on the net it sounds as if it should be aerated and used within a month

doesn't need aeration. The whole business is gimmicky in my opinion. My recommendation, If you have the concentrate an add it to H2O and stir, there is plenty of O2 available. Mix a test batch. If it smells bad it is bad. Throw it away.
If you used manure in your compost there could be e coli in it. If you use an extract or tea from this compost don't use it on leaf crops.

The article from the University of Vermont was published in 2005. There has been continued research done since them. Most of the current research that I am familiar with was done by Dr. Elaine Ingham. She is founder of the soil food web and head researcher for the Rodale Institute.
