Thanks for that post. I especially enjoyed reading about the very practical method of taking an empty pizza box, putting it under squash vines and shaking to catch squash bugs... it was one of those "Why didn't I think of that" moments.

Great article. Did you happen to see the link to pests by region at the bottom of the last page. The southern interior - worst pest problems are squash bugs and squash vine borers. I have not had a problem with squash bugs but, if left unprotected by row covers, every single squash plant will be invaded by squash vine borers here in my part of the world (Georgia).

BT and Spinosad - Bonide products?
After reading Walshevak's post with the link to the Mother Earth News Report on organic pest control, I did some poking around to find out where I can get Spinosad. It was mentioned in the section dealing with cabbage worms. Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew came up in my searches.
Also, Bonide makes a Thuricide BT. That substance was also mentioned with regard to cabbage worms?
Does anyone have experience with these brands? Are they good for last resort treatment of plagues?

I think Sluggo is made from spinosad???

I bought some Captain Jacks spinosad but never used it. My SIL said it is very harmful to bees and since his bee hive is right next to my garden, I decided not to use it. Maybe one of the bee keepers on the forum can give a better response to the spinosad vs bee question.Windmere wrote:
