So far this spring...

I topped off my 6 main beds (4'x8') that are on a slope and therefore 3 boards on the downhill side (17.5") and 2 boards on the uphill side (11") with compost.  The beds settled a LOT from their first year (last year) and I lost a lot of mix with pulling roots, etc.  My compost is:

All nicely AGED:
- 1 truckload mushroom compost (starts with horse stall leavings)
- 1 truckload chicken litter,
- 1 truckload cow manure and hay mix from around round hay bale wheels in the fields -- hot composted all summer, turned every 30 days,
- 1 gallon (YES GALLON) red wiggler worms from bait shop when they cleaned out their beds
- 3 truckloads SHREDDED to confetti leaf and grass clippings from the last cut in the fall after leaves fell on 3 acres,
- 10 gallons worm castings
- 10 gallons Starbucks coffee grounds
- garden cleanup last fall (1 supersized rolling trashcan squashed full of shredded  to confetti vegetation)
- household food scraps that made it passed the dogs (10 gallons maybe) 

I've planted:
- 8 kinds of lettuce starts in 16 squares
- 3 kinds of spinach starts in 6 squares
- Red Norland potatoes in 16 squares
- Yukon Gold potatoes in 16 squares
- 3 kinds of onion sets in 16 squares
- 2 kinds of parsnip seeds in 2 squares
- 2 kinds of beat seeds in 2 squares
- 1 kind of rutabaga seeds in 1 square
- 2 kinds of turnip seeds in 2 squares
- 8 kinds of carrot seeds in 8 squares
- 8 kinds of pea seeds in 8 squares
- 2 kinds of flower starts in 2 squares
- 9 kale starts outside of ANSFG for space
- 9 collard starts outside of ANSFG for space
- 1 kind of Swiss Chard starts in 2 squares


Still plenty of room for an entire bed of beans.  Plus I started indoors 9 kinds of sweet peppers, 6 melons, 6 summer squash, 6 winter squash, 3 kinds of cukes, 3 more kinds of onions, and am about to start 3ea 2'x3' concrete mixing tubs with misc. lettuce, greens, microgreens, and chois etc.

Question:  Can I plant radishes and carrots on the edges of my potato beds?

Wow, that's a lotta stuff, but you've got a lotta space.

I would. (I don't worry about companion planting.)

Hopefully you didn't have turn all that compost by yourself! A tractor or a teenager maybe?

The potato foliage may over take the carrots and make then grow a bit stunted & weedy as carrots like open air & sun instead of shade .
The radish should be ready in 30 days and be out the way before the potato tops shade them .

It was my aging-by-the-shovelful back that did all the compost forking/turning, but it was so rewarding to see the black gold revealed and imagine veggies and fruits that will come about.

I wasn't sure about carrots being blocked by potato foliage because of the growth rates... but as I've heard a 100 times before, SEEDS ARE CHEAP... so guess I'm gonna try, 60d carrots, 30d radishes, 30d beats, 30s turnips.... I keep looking at that empty potato bed (all the work is going on below) and thinking it's a shame to waste that space until the tops come up strong.... maybe some quick lettuces, corn salad, microgreens.... mmm...

This weekend, I: 
Planted 9 Georgia COLLARDS as edible vegetation in the flower beds. 
Planted Rainbow Lights Swiss CHARD 2/square in 5 squares.
Planted 9 squares of Chinese CABBAGE, covered with coldframe & row cover.

Also, planted 21 squares of 32 squares in SWEET PEPPERS, have starts coming along for the rest -- since the weather is COOL and BLUSTERY and the starts were overflowing the unheated greenhouse, I covered each with a clay pot for protection against the storms... worked GREAT!

Am halfway through building a concrete block & wood table for 6 concrete mixing tubs (2'x3' ea) for more salad greens and 2 kinds of mini Choi.

Built substantial and ELEVATED grids for peppers and beans (not planted yet), each bed 4'x8'.

Sowed for greenhouse more peppers, melons, cukes, summer and winter squash.

Planted 18ea 2-toned purple violas just for pretty. 

Shoveled another 2 truckloads of compost for flower beds. 

Am assembling my own seed starting Mel's Mix in 2ea  35-gallon trashcans so I don't have to scramble every time I want to sow something.

Gathered all my plastic containers, hosed off, then dunked in bleach water, then dried and stacked everything in one designated space, instead of 12, under cover, but turns out, was not out of the wind enough since a dozen trays of empty cells scattered all over the yard in this wind/rain storm we're having.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my mini greenhouse with 8 shelves -- $50 Tractor Supply.  Used a ratchet strap to secure it to a fence and am adding vinyl-coated wire shelves across the back to increase space.  Complaints for this thing were unjustified in my experience, assembled quickly and easily.  Obviously it needs to be secured to something immobile, it can be lifted with one hand.  And well worth the money already.

That greenhouse is a good price and you were smart to secure it!     Your garden and gardening sounds awesome.  Can you post photos?

GoodNESS, ETNRedclay!  Makes me tired just reading your schedule.  And I thought I was busy...  But it also motivates me to get going on planting more stuff.  I've still got over 100 squares to fill.

Know about that slope issue.  We've got one too.
