Is there enough water in my seed mix??????
Ok so i put enough water in my (store bought) seed mix that if i grabbed a handful and squeezed it tight water dribbled out. I set my seeds in just as directed and then placed a dome over my seed trays, which is one of those double ones, one with drainage and one without. I also have a small warming mat under trays and i put towel over the top. I did this on Sunday (daylight savings day) and the trays are warm, but not too warm, and water is condensed at the top of domes. The seed mix looks damp!
Now my question is do you think there is enough water or do i need to add more????? Also do you think i've done things right so far???? There is so much conflicting info everywhere, i don't know what the right thing to do is!!! Thanks for your time/Advice!!!

Re: Is there enough water in my seed mix??????
I use the feel touch. Using the plastic yogurt cups trimmed to my needs, I keep the tray filled with just enough water to keep the tops moist to my touch.
I'm doing it this year as it has worked very nicely for me last season.
I have a couple of dome's, I use them, however my preference would be the yogurt cups.
By the way the dome should come off when the plants sprout up, according to what I've read.

Re: Is there enough water in my seed mix??????
Since you have a lid I don't think you need to add anymore water as the water you have will stay inside the lidded trays. I left some of my tomatoes inside the lidded tray for a couple days while allowing a few more plants to sprout before taking the lid off and placing everything under the lights. I can't tell that it did any damage. I think there is a bit of wiggle room in all of the components involved. They need moisture so as long ans they seeds and seedling are not too wet or too dry they will survive.
Good luck

Jimmy, I like your avatar. However, shouldn't there be something cold and wet in your hand?? Or are you watching for gophers?

In the greenhouse at class, we use a moisture meter to take the guesswork out of things.
