Well, here's the fun times I am having already trying to plan my SFG.  I'm in the woods practically in the mountains of southwestern Virginia and one strange thing about where I live is that I have lots of wild things, so I was thinking of getting a greenhouse built (approximately 6 ft by 6 ft) that would help keep the wild ones out.  Is the SFG method workable in a greenhouse around that size? Like if I had a 2ft by 4ft path that I put, say, lettuce close by so it wouldn't feel totally cramped and then on the other squares I put things that I could grow without worry?  I ask because that would certainly be a big huge help to get me on my merry way. (I'd have 28 squares or so to plan out BTW)

The other question I had was about seed disks and "pelleted" seeds, as I've been reading thru quite a number of seed catalogs as of late and the question of seed disks and "pelleted" seeds came up.  Would those seed disks and "pelleted" seeds be even more ideal for the purposes of SFG, especially with regard to making planting relatively easy?  I'm fairly new at this sort of thing, so I'd like some assistance here.

Hi there. I cannot speak to the greenhouse question.

The pellet disks are cute and novel and not very practical in my opinion. If you do choose to use the discs, make sure you remove the netting when you transplant the wee plants into the garden. If you leave the netting on that will hamper root growth. I typically plant in any recycled containers or trays I have collected throughout the year.

Pelletized seed can be very handy. Typically very very small seeds have a dissolvable coat applied to them, it just makes handling them easier and that's about it.

I get sticker shock looking at seed tapes. For some of them you can spend three or four times as much for 1/20th the seeds. To each their own, but it seems like overkill on the convenience to me.

I use a straw cut on the diagonal to carefully place 1-3 tiny seeds in a hole made with Mel's pencil. These are arugula

Sometimes super small seeds don't need to be covered, just pressed into the soil.

I have a thought about your green house. If you are building it to keep wild things out would a fence around your garden work just a good? If so it might save you time and money. Especially if you are like more of us who start small and than expand each year.  Embarassed You won't be able to expand the green house but a fence can easily be add to/ moved.

If you plan on the green house to grow thing through the cooler weather as well keep out the wild things than I think that it will be a great for you. Also would be a great way to start your seeds and give you a jump on spring and prolong growing in the fall.

I don't know anything about the seed disks or the pellets. But the others have posted ideas about them.
