Re: Square Tomato Cages
Howdy BC54!
Those tomato boxes look GREAT!
Here's a suggestion you might want to consider. Instead of screwing the 2x4s together both horizontally and vertically, why not drill from top to bottom (a drill press would assure alignment) on the corners and drop a dowel or large spike to lock them together?
Please show us pics as the plants grow.

Re: Square Tomato Cages
I will post photos as the plants (my babies!) grow bigger.
Large spikes in the corners are a good idea! However I like that the internal screws pull everything together tight and rigid.

Re: Square Tomato Cages
Beautiful. They are now on my wish list/to do list. So much better than those cheap wire cages that always look so clumsy and never stay vertical etc.
I will be interested to see the final result with loaded tomato plants and I bet they will still look nice and neat.
I will not get round to them this year, but certainly for next. Probably a winter job.

Wow, blackcat! +1 on Sanderson's comment! Very nice!
Did you use cattle panels for that? Please give details! (Or did I just miss them...?)

Re: Square Tomato Cages
I called in to Canadian Tire today to price what I thought would be the square wire supports, only to find what I thought I saw were only the usual conical ones but much heavier quality and in primary colours. So I will continue searching.
On the way out I saw that Canadian Tire still sell Roundup. There was a huge pallet of gallon containers with a sprayer, must have held 16 x 4 layers = 64 total plus shelves full of smaller containers. Just think hpw many bee that could kill.

Those tomato cages from Henry Fields are only 48" tall. Your cages look taller. How tall are your cages.????

Re: Square Tomato Cages
Wow that looks absolutely wonderful, and so sturdy. I've found those square cages come apart easily when stuck in the soil, but the way you've stuck their prongs in the wood itself looks to solve that quite nicely. Cleverly done!
