I have been wanting to start a square foot garden for years...I have finally done it!!

I have two 10 inch raised beds, one is 2x4 and holds a couple of blackberry bushes, I may also put my herbs along side those.

the second is a standard 4x4, to make the grids:
12 eye bolts and some small electrical wire to tie it all together.

I am thouroughly excited!!

Now if I can only keep the cows out of the cabbage until I can install the electrical fencing...lol

Welcome Ginger.

What part of California are you in? I am also in California and would love to hear about your garden and your SFG experiences. You will find everyone on the forums is very supportive and we all seem to love to look at garden pictures. Can't wait to see yours.

I live right on the edge of the foothills outside of clovis, which is just northeast of Fresno. It is a lovely location.

My blackberries were doing REALLY great until the cows got into them...lol...there are some adolescents who like to try new things and my blackberries fell victim. oh well...lol! Right now they are accompanied by some mini pansies and they look pretty good all things considered. It'll be okay for my brambles to just work on developing their roots this year by next year I will have an electrified fence to keep out the beef.

Last year I arranged my 2 blackberry bushes along with 2 tomato plants in four 5 gallon buckets in a semi-modified square foot method. I pruned them incorectly last year anyhoo so they looked funky

I just planted my crops this morning so the only things up are the 3 tomatos and the red pepper I bought at the store.I planted 2 squares each of spinnach, cauliflower, and broccoli. and 1 square each of carrots, red onions, raddishes, iceburg and butter lettuce and 1 nasturtum (to keep away the buggies)

I am stoked!!

Your garden sounds wonderful. Please post some pictures as it grows.

We have considered growing blackberries ourselves. We have a "wilder" part of our yard where they would grow well but the critters would eat a lot of them there. Ah well...

Have a great day!
