So Sorry
John, I'm very sorry for your loss. A few years ago we had to put down our 16 yr old lavender point siamese. He was very much like a dog in that he came when called and was loyal to the end. I can totally empathize.
As for the snow shoveling. Well, I'm still a rookie... 13 years. However, I have found that when my wife and I work together we become closer. Example: She cooks and I wash as she cooks. We have good conversations and the work becomes enjoyable for both of us.
As some have mentioned, communication is huge.

John
I was amused & smiled at the bent ears & the snow part .
Hot tongue & cold shoulder is usually cured by a box of choc's , a bunch of flowers & a big cuddle ( a sorry helps sometimes ) .
As for the loss of your dog ..
That's hard for me , I blubbered like a baby for five minutes or so when I had to have my self trained gun dog put down , she was nearly ten yrs old . Even now almost nine years later it still brings a lump in my throat occasionally . My thoughts are with you on this one.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Plantoid, Flowers - Some 15+ years ago, my husband accepted a Florida fishing trip with industry friends, scheduled over my birthday. Not that he couldn't have gone with my blessing, but I was hurt and just furious that he didn't talk with me first to make early or late birthday arrangements. His lame excuse was that I had stated I didn't want a big deal for my birthday. Ignoring is not the same as keeping it low key!! While he was gone, a huge florist arrangement arrived at work, super big, $$ and pretty, to start making up for it. Every birthday after that, I got a huge arrangement at work until I retired. A few people knew about his big goof, and would always check to make sure I got flowers for my birthday. To this day I get a small arrangement of "spring" flowers as part of my birthday.
Communication. I do not play female games with him. I tell him what bothers me and why, and how it could have been handled better. In fact, both of us try to communicate straight forward.

Thanks Dave and Sanderson, this one hit pretty hard. She was not the best of dogs compared to my hunting buddy but she was happy to see me every day when I came home and loved to get the paper every morning.

My son picked this from his neighbors lemon tree, hanging over the fence. OctoLemon:
I picked some lemons while visiting this weekend and hope to dehydrate them like I did my oranges.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Do you have a dehydrator? I thought I would dry them and make a lemon powder for seasoning.
Re: Senseless Banter...
We pack lemon peelings cut in strips into pint jars then top them off with Smirnoff Vodka(It's gluten free) then we put it in the cabinet and forget about it for a minimum of 3 months we have some that are a year old. We take the peelings and in a shallow pan dry them in sugar making lemon peel candy the lemon infused vodka is very strong lemon flavor and great for baking and drinking.
what great ideas!
Yes, we have a dehydrator and for sure I'm going to do Cappy's recipe. Right up my alley. Question: are not all vodkas gluten free?

Re: Senseless Banter...
Surprisingly no all vodka's are not gluten free many are not old style pure vodka and contain grain spirits. The trace amounts in distilled spirits is enough to cause a celiac reaction.

When you live with a celiac you learn all the little unknown things sadly sometimes the hard way.
Re: Senseless Banter...
Gluten free vodka. Traditional Russian vodka was always made with boiling water being poured over bits of potato & scrubbed peelings which were then steeped in the water and messed around for a few days to bring out the gluten free starch ,
Honey or cane or sugar beet sugar was added to the mix to feed the fermentation and a yeast starter induced then it was fully fermented out , t'is then racked off the lees a couple of times , then decanted & distilled ,then run thorough crushed /powdered charcoal filters to get it clear as a bell.
Cheaper grain vodka always used to give me blinding headaches .. usually after falling down against a wall .
What did you call the drink in the end .... besides good ...... " four square Vlemonka " ?

for this morning. I loved the bit about a headache.
Since I am also gluten free I learn so much from folks on this forum.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Every thing you see us cook or post here is gluten free but unless ya know ya can't tell. Look at us we sure aint suffering. Sadly try as we might occasional reactions still happen. If ya have any questions or need a lil help ask. Peg has a wealth of info and some online sources and she is an amazing cook.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Even though I don't live in the city, I can relate to this whole thing, especially the first pair of Yak Traks, the days snowed in at home, the moldy Prego & the shoveling backache:
I also bought my first pair of snow shoes.
All hail Alaskachusetts!

Re: Senseless Banter...
Cute video.
So strange how it's so different everywhere you live. We have had one of the mildest winters ever, and it's right after a huge 30- and 50-year record breaker for cold. It feels like we missed winter completely. I miss it actually, and quite a bit.
Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if I were among the weekend snow-shoveling warriors who dropped dead from shoveling all that snow in the blizzard-hit regions. Somehow I feel like a natural for it, and 'tis the season to drop dead of heart attacks.
