Amazing how deep the nest went. The resulting sculpture is very interesting.

I'm usually a "live-and-let-live" kind of person, but I find this strangely satisfying.
Re: Fire Ants-What to do!
Fire ants don't belong here. PERIOD
They came here from South America in the early 1900s.
In S.A. their are natural predators that take care of them, here there are none.
So they love it here, due to mild winters their now as far north as MD.
I have deer, groundhogs, rabbits, etc. coming into my yard and I live in a town of 35,000 population, 50% of my time is creating barriers to keep them out, so far it;s working. If and when it stops I will shoot them, I'm not making my garden projects to feed wild life.
Sounds cruel ? some think yes, others agree, all depends on how things affect us.

It would take numerous gal. of aluminum to get to 1 of these nests.

I agree, they don't belong here. But, We have found nothing to completly get rid of them(if anyone has a cure-all for fire ants, let me know). Just wait til they adapt/travel north to Indiana. Some of the ant nests go 6 ft deep in the winter months. This keeps the cold from killing them off.jimmy cee wrote:Fire ants don't belong here. PERIOD
