December in the N&C Midwest
Well, I managed to miss most of November, but I am back for the onslaught of winter! It is December 1 and our first sleet/ice has just landed on the ground. Traveling to work tomorrow will be interesting, and I think it is now officially too late to put in my garlic. What is happening with everyone else in our little corner of the garden?

Splitting time with getting ready for holidays, composting, and the last couple beds still need to be cleaned and tarped over.

Re: December in the N&C Midwest
My mind is definitely getting ahead of the seasons, as last night I dreamed I needed to pot up tomato seedlings, some of which had fruit already blushing. Now THERE'S a dream for December in SD!!!
Reality: Need to finish cleaning up a few things in the yard before the snow hits in the next few days.

Spent hours outside today in warm temps, again tomorrow, then begin something less important, like Christmas shopping

Not much gardening here! Still eating homegrown toms ripening in the basement though. Adding to my compost as well.

Garden is officially done - everything is now buried under a layer of snow, which is supposed to continue for the next 2 days.

Re: December in the N&C Midwest
Just peeking in to show Im still around. Busy as all heck, but right after Xmas Im going to get started on planning our 2014 garden. Ill be expanding my SFG with an additional 12'x4' and 3- 8'x4' beds. That will fill my fenced in area. Our creek is currently flooded over some of our baby fruit trees so I hope it doesnt kill them. I hope to get a few more shop lights set up in the basement for seed starting too.
One thing that I want to do is write down all the seed start dates in my planner for next year. I got so busy in the summer that I missed seed starting dates for a fall crop.
Hope you are all doing well and enjoy the holidays. Merry Christmas!

Re: December in the N&C Midwest
This was my first year gardening (and canning!). I had 2- 3'x3' boxes, 2- 12'x4', and a 2'x4'x1' (for carrots). This is probably the best pic I have of it before everything grew. You can see to the left next to the barn where the next 12'x4' box will go. Behind all the 12'x4's will be the 8'x4' boxes. The fence was there when we bought the house. Its rusty but does the job. The blue tarp covered box is my daughters sand box.sanderson wrote:Photo of your garden? Sounds huge!
I added a couple of cattle panel arches as well. This was taken the very beginning of May.

Re: December in the N&C Midwest
Thanks. That will be a great garden, not that it isn't already great. Just greater!
