I've got a 10 ft diameter bowl of ash where anything and everything has been burnt.  It is the only available space which is in full sun.  The other candidate is shaded by a neighbors tree until about 11am to noon.  Some filtered light gets through in AM.  I'll be using 7.25 inch frames.  Where would you put them and what would you do to the existing soil?

That's good you have a space with full sun. The square foot garden method does not use existing soil.  At all.  It is fully explained in the book.

The other area by the tree can work too if it gets 6-8 hours of sun each day.  That amount of sunshine is considered full sun too.

Welcome to the Forum! glad you\'re here

Ditto on Llama Mama: you can set your boxes in either place! I would recommend putting good quality weed fabric under the boxes in the burn area. You don't know what was burned besides paper/wood products.

Why not set up beds in both areas. A little shade is helpful in the hot Florida sun and the full sun site will increase your winter growing access.. One of the beauties of the square foot gardening method is the use of Mels Mix and not the native soil. That allows you to set up over the burn pit or other contaminated soil areas. If you haven't already, get a copy of the ALL NEW SQUAREFOOT GARDENING book, second edition. This book is the basis of the gardens on this forum and is your greatest reference source for SFG.

Welcome to the site MLW .

The ISBN code for the book is in my strap lines.

Don't be shy in asking question there is a lot of help on here.

On the left of the screen when you are on the home page are some creamy bobbles  click on them for popular topics .

Use the sections and area  index's  in the home button in the green line across the page for a better investigation /search of things.
