Compost pile growing

Photo's shown here are of a growing compost pile.
I started picking up veggies that were being discarded, after becoming old, not sale worthy, and trimmings.
Just mixed in the top with 2 large boxes of lettuce, carrot, onions, apples, tomato's, and celery.
I just started collecting these last week, the store is 4 blocks from me, and very receptive to my needs.

I'll be picking up some fresh cow and horse manure soon, adding it in layers, then letting it settle in for the winter.
So many worms in the mix, a beautiful sight...
I think I am going to consider some substantial compost bins....These are working, however I'd feel more secure with some substance..

I remember a youtube compost bin test, and it said that a pretty flimsy looking bin -- nothing much more than some plastic wire you'd prop up into a vertical tube, was easily the best one, as it let so much air in. So what you've got going looks at least as good, and like it should work great.

I notice some big root balls in your compost. You're not going to break those up? I find those are slow to decay outside a nicely working compost heap, but if yours will be going gangbusters, maybe the root balls will disappear?

I can see the nasturtiums atop your pile...pulled mine from the garden earlier this week and threw in the compost pile too.

Marc, the thing about wire wall enclosures is that the outer edges do not get as moist or hot as needed to fully & quickly compost . They tend to let stuff dry out and are basically just containing the material that will need just as much if not more turning as a walled bin to get the material fully composted with the weed seeds etc killed off..

The fully enclosed sided bind are quicker and more thorough, they hold the moisture needed but you still do need to turn the contents over to get oxygen and water into the whole pile .

Yes, bundles from wife's baskets, I break them up before covering..
