Re: Only a Gardener Would . . .
Rosina - When I finally get tired of a seed packet, I have a patch out near my compost bin that I scatter with the seeds. If something sprouts, great! If not, they are no longer part of my stash. I have had a few surprise sproutings and some lovely flowers bloom from that area. AND it makes me feel better that I did not just throw them away!

Wonderful ideas with the index cards and also spreading out potentially expired seeds!

Oh I love that! Put them out around the compost pile then I won't have to 'weed' them. No sun over there but that's OK.Goosegirl wrote:Rosina - When I finally get tired of a seed packet, I have a patch out near my compost bin that I scatter with the seeds. If something sprouts, great! I've been scattering mine in my perennial gardens but then forget I did it and pull out anything that I know I didn't plant.

My grandmother's parakeets were all named Petey (Pete -e). During my 66 years I have had a few male cats named Slim or Jim.
Re: Only a Gardener Would . . .
My mom's canaries were all named Joey. I think she really believed that her canary was twenty years old.

...accidentally spill a snack container of raw sunflower and pumpkin seeds on the floor of the car and, once home, pick up the floor mat full of seeds, carry it to the garden, dig a trench, pour in the seeds and cover....ALL IN THE RAIN!
I know, they're probably irradiated and won't grow....but I had to try.

Leone, have you seen our posts about our "official slug hunting outfits?"
Re: Only a Gardener Would . . .
No I haven't, but I would like too! I tried a search and found lots of information about slugs, but not just one in particular that is about outfits. Maybe the posts are scattered throughout the forum?AtlantaMarie wrote:Leone, have you seen our posts about our "official slug hunting outfits?"

I think you'll find them under Senseless Banter...
The outfit consists of a bathrobe, slippers, & a head-style flashlight. And stuff to drown the slugs in, of course...

Thanks for clarifying.
Off subject. I'm intrigued by the differences in temperatures of our respondents.
We sure do live in a diverse world.

Absolutely hysterical thread! Thanks! Just read the whole thing!
Um, giving the bees their own watering station.
Spraying perfectly good milk on plants with PM.....neighbors aghast....
Just the whole compost pile.....yah.
Ground cherries; placement is key!
Interesting who is willing to try new stuff that you have an over-abundance of. Very interesting!

Marie, For the beginner, it's okay if they use a hand-held flashlight.
Re: Only a Gardener Would . . .
Only a gardener would understand the joy of taking pictures of vegetables and the finished recipes using the harvest.
Cooking down homemade V8 juice, half of the 8 veggies were home grown - extra fresh and sweet tasting since the salt is rather minimal when homemade.

Better than picking in the dark for sure...
Oh, I forgot - the spouse/partner/kid who threatens to lock us out since it's so late! But that's optional.
