Plantoid, not Lyndeeloo but I can answer your question....it is tomatillos, a relative of cape gooseberries. It originated in Mexico and is used in making green sauces (a type of salsa).

Tomatillos - this tells a little about them and how to use them.

Thanks! The pumpkins are a hybrid called Lil' Pump-ke-mon. They were pure white until they matured, and then they got the orange stripes and green speckles. Too fun!

Your welcome! Glad you like it, it's not an in depth or detailed article for sure but it is a good basic article to give you an idea of what they are and how to use them if you're unfamiliar with them. Just an FYI if you do decide to grow them, they are self-incompatible so you have to grow at least two for them to set fruit. And another link I have on them says that you can pull them up before the frost hits and hang them upside down in an unheated garage and they will keep for at least a couple of months.

I'm going to sneak this photo in your topic.  I was ready to rip out the 2 tomatilla plants!
It has to be the single result from using a paint brush to pollinate.

Here are my gleanings from the garden:

Carrots are from my boxes - have 16 of these bags frozen.  The corn is from a friend's yard - have 22 bags creamed and frozen.
Monthly Avatar Theme September 2013: Harvest! - Page 2 Pict0012

Onions - here's my bag'o'nions
Monthly Avatar Theme September 2013: Harvest! - Page 2 Pict0013

And my 'maters - Amish Paste and Dakota Gold.

Monthly Avatar Theme September 2013: Harvest! - Page 2 Pict0014

The Dakota Golds have not been stored at all - not enough of them to do anything but EAT NOW!!!  Amish Pastes are being hoarded.  I froze them in gallon bags - 2 FULLY stuffed so that I could hardly zip them closed, and more ripening every few days.

Sanderson so you can call this your little pampered baby!  I am so glad that you got the one at least after all your hard work!  I have never grown them or eaten them.  It wil be something that I will have to try in the future.

Goosegirl I am so envious of what you grew, got from your neighbor and froze!  You are gonna have a well-stocked freezer and lots of wonderful meals!

rofl You're not kidding!  Hubby has already informed me "the freezer is FULL.  No more!!!"

I'm sure he won't mind if the next batch to freeze is his salsa.....

Some nice looking crops .
I'm off out in the morning to buy some more preserving jars so I can store about 6 pound of sweet pickled cucumber ( not the too salty recipe I used a few weeks ago ) in spice 65 white vinegar or maybe some spiced wine vinegar for some of them .

We have picked a wee beefsteak glasshouse tomato this afternoon  .....it weighs 1pound 3 ounces and had to be cut off the vine as it was too firmly attached to pull off.

Thought of changing my avatar piccy and using one of the tom but am too lazy to do it Embarassed
