SFG from Way Back In Ohio

I watched Mel on PBS back in the 80s and had a square foot garden for a few years. We had good production and good memories from those days. Our neighbors said that it was very unusual and pretty. The children grew and between their activities and my business, I turned my garden over and planted grass seed.

I am getting back into it in on a smaller scale this year with some containers. Glad I found this website and this community.

I'm a rather new SFGer who tumbled head-over-heals into the system and surprisingly found myself in Mel Bartholomew's Ohio Symposium last summer learning from the Master. Back in the 80s I was still trying to grow plants in clay! Heck in the spring of '09 I still was!

While many of us are well versed in the new SFG system, having folks on the Forums who have experience with the original methods often can give posters input based on history.

I hope you enjoy the new SFG methods and find them far easier than the original. Just wait until your new neighbors see this garden! Check into the North and Central Midwest Regional Forum, too. You will find friendly local folks there.

Rather than a wood grid, are there others who have used wood dowel rods w/string or twine to create the grid pattern? (Yes... I'll be planting soon, but first things first.

I,m new too in Rapid City SD. I'm not much of a gardener most plants take a look at me curl up and die. I told my hubby don't spend money on thick vibrant silk flowers they don't look like they live here. I'm hoping the sqf method will help. I've never done it before.
