Got my first food!!!
I took my first radishes and onions out of the garden today. I was so happy I ate the radishes for breakfast. It's my first garden. I have tomatoes on my plants and potatoes growing like weeds. Though I know they aren't weeds. I am thinking of expanding next year. My cucumbers keep dying though. I'm going to try a little shade in the afternoons for them.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I accidentally planted 9 cilantro per square instead of one, and had intended to move them, but they are doing so well, I am cutting them all off at 2 inches every 5-6 days and mixing them with spinach and making pesto. yum
OH and the MOREL mushroom we found in my garden as well.

LOL I LOVE hearing about people with their first gardens. YAY!
I've NEVER had great success with my cucumbers, thankfully my next door neighbor & best friend DOES. Hubby & I made a salad table for her & gave her mix for her birthday.
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Matured icicle radishes (so mild some VN thought they were diacon!), lots of lettuces (need to reseed!), arugula, spinach, and broccoli (only side heads before they bolt), and cabbage leaves. And I have a cabbage in the fridge that hasn't been eaten yet.

Did some juicing. Swiss chard, spinach, a sprig of spearmint and cilantro, all from the garden. Then thru in a store bought apple and juiced it all. It was yummy.

The first asparagus. Tomorrow, we'll have Purple Sprouting Broccoli from the one remaining plant. Then, 'Up she come." And the space will be replanted with.....I don't know yet.

What are you eating from your garden today?
First radish, planted Jan 5 in a window sill box. Have had: lettuce, chives, onion, strawberry, spinach, all in very small quantities.
A harbinger of things to come: Purple asparagus popped up 4 days after I planted the two year crowns.

Salad with (from garden) Romaine lettuce, cilantro, spinach and (from store) tomato and avacado and a little salt and vinegar. Yum.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Kim, that salad looks fantastic! Even at 5:30 a.m.
UTBW, looks great!
I nibbled on a couple spinach leaf clippings. That is all

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Thanks UTBW! The beetles seem to have a real taste for the brassica's. I don't really notice them as much on anything else. A good trap plant for them I have found, is bok choi. Unfortunately, it's also one of the things I was looking most forward to
And yes nilberty those are some great looking pickins Picture perfect!

The monster cabbage that was threatening to hold my cat hostage has been harvested and is on its way to becoming apple coleslaw tonight with our burgers!!
I can't believe how sweet peas are fresh from the garden. They are just like candy. I can't bring myself to cook them! Next year, I plant a full 4x4 with Tom Thumb Peas in February and they stay there until the tomatoes go in. YUM!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
This morning I just went out and cut a bunch of the volunteer Green Deer Tongue and Freckles lettuces for our first BIG bowl of salad for the year! I cut enough to make a salad that will last us for several days. By the time it is done, the scalped lettuces may have grown back enough for the next salad! Can't wait until the rest of the garden catches up and we can put our own peppers, carrots, and such in it.

They don't taste lemony, just look like lemons. I got the seeds from Baker Creek. They had such good reviews:

I went out for the first time and picked some spinach leaves to add to my eggs.. also sliced up one of the baby norland red potatoes that I pulled out the other day and added that too. Needless to say I was super excited to finally eat something from my garden!
