UMass Extension Vegetable Notes
UMass Extension Vegetable Notes
A fabulous (yes, the hyperbole is deserved) resource for New England gardeners is the weekly Vegetable Notes from the UMass Extension Service. During the gardening season they publish a weekly newsletter in PDF form that provides up-to-date information on the status of crop conditions, pests, diseases and good farming/gardening practices, including organic practices.
You can subscribe to the newsletter and have it emailed to you each week by going here. The past issues are archived here. I recommend you pick up the current (June 13, vol 24, no. 8 ) issue which has a color photo guide for recognizing late blight and distinguishing it from other fungal diseases, and articles on potato flea beetle and Mexican bean beetle control. Last week (June 7) they had articles on striped cucumber beetle, Colorado potato beetle and potato leafhopper control.
