alternative to roundup.... Flame thrower
I have the small hand held one that uses canisters. Works great but I would be a little worried that burning bindweed next to my beds might be a disaster in the making...

Re: althernative to roundup.... Flame thrower
I have a couple. I have one propane tank that is attached to a specifically built handcart. I also have a small fire extinguisher attached to the handcart.
I find that I can use it safely through July and sometimes into August before things dry up so much that it becomes a fire threat.
I have a long time friend who was using one around her flower beds next to the house. She caught the cedar siding on fire, and had to call the fire department. There was minimal damage, considering, but guess where one of my torches came from!

Re: althernative to roundup.... Flame thrower
I have a neighbor who managed to catch a perfectly healthy, live tree on fire. The tree was in the middle of their perfectly lush, green lawn. So I don't personally trust that things need to be really dried out before they can catch fire.

They say right on the package that you do not actually turn the plant to ashes, you just have to hit it from a distance. I am very cognisant of the fire risk, we had a forest fire in our yard in Oregon, just from a 4 wheeler that the tail pipe was up against some brush. And this was coastal oregon where it never gets very hot or dry.

I am very curious how you find it. I have often looked at them thinking of my quake grass and wondering if it would be useful for that.

Now that would be something my kids (grown) would just love to help me use and I would get good use out of it!

I would LOVE a flame thrower! However, since Hubby takes care of the finances, including the homeowner's insurance, I do not see one in my future.
