Hello, from London Ontario
Hi from London, Ontario.
This is my first year doing SFG. I've been growing vegetables for a while, but not very successfully because with two kids I've not had a whole lot of time and things sometimes didn't get watered This spring, I've built myself 3 boxes, 3 x 3, at the front of the house, so I can do a few minutes here and there as I'm going in and out with the kids, instead of having to get my boots and find tools and head to the big garden. It's working pretty well so far! This long weekend is usually the big weekend for planting, but this year I've already got everything in and growing well, so I'm ahead of the game, for once!
I'm still new at this, though, so I'll be browsing, learning, and asking questions!

My solution to not having time to water was to have my boys go water after dinner.

My kids would love that idea, but they'd water each other instead of the vegetables, or I'd find them running naked through the sprinkler.

And what's wrong with that. Sounds like fun if you can get them to aim at the gardens.

Welcome. You will find a lot of help here. Hhhhmmmm I miss those little boy years - mine are now 28 & 30.
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Re: Hello, from London Ontario
Welcome clightower! I remember those days when my kids were little. I had three beds and I didn't want to risk the little ones doing any possible damage and I was actually quite selfish with my beds. I had never thought of making one for the kids but that would have been a good idea and gotten them more interested. All you can do is the best you can do with watering. Some people on this site use mulch to keep their beds from drying out. It works well.
