Looking ahead

I've been looking ahead (since plants are in the ground and all my seed has sprouted)...looking ahead to support for plants. How hard is it to support plants that get heavy, in this very loose soil. I don't necessarily want to put stakes through my weed cloth into the ground but I don't foresee them being very sturdy in the mel's mix. Any ideas?

You're right that a traditional cage won't stand up very well in Mel's Mix - the stuff is just too loose and friable - which is great for your plants but not great for a tomato cage. Many SFG'ers (including me) install their trellises outside the box. I made mine using 1/2" electrical conduit like Mel shows in his book. I have it outside the box right next to it. Plants that need a trellis get planted along that side.
