Maybe jazzy cat can supply a link that says exactly what the toxin is in plywood. but until then, have you considered using boards? Some of my beds have them. I too am getting ready to redo some beds and I too was going to use plywood....I probably still will since I already bought it.

My husband says there is glue in the plywood. He talked about using boards too but my thinking was that the plywood would be better.

Have you bought the plywood yet? I think that some types of plywood have formaldehyde used in the manufacturing process. There is also a formaldehyde free product available. Other than that I cannot say.
Oh, also, plywood meant for exterior work is what your going to need.

Here is a link to a product that has nontoxic glues, etc. and uses soy based adhesive. It might be worth it to try and find some.

I'm thinking I will go back to the lumber yard and just go with boards for the bottom of my new raised boxes. Mostly for the reason that the plywood will likely rot out faster than boards. Unless I treat it with waterproof sealers. FYI< I'm going to split this plywood chat from the original post about weeds.

So far I've been happy with using 4x8 sheets (cut in half to make two 4x4 sfg's) of concrete Hardie siding as the base of my "table top" sfg. I also used 7 1/4" PVC trim boards from Lowes for the sides. You can check out the trim boards on the Certainteed website. Not the cheapest stuff, but it looks like it will last forever. Since the Hardie sheets are fairly thin, I reinforced each 4'x4' with 4 2x6's though 2x4's would have been fine. I think it was about $60 for the trim boards and about $16 for the 4x8 sheet of Hardie.

We haven't bought the plywood yet. I have a feeling we'll go with the boards though. Can't wait to get this project done!
