This is my second year doing SFG, I also get my compost from Price Farms and I got my vermiculite from Indoor Gardens. Just get through this first year of running, and then all you'll have to do is get compost in the future.

I'm in Cbus too, close to you - I actually used to work at Pickaway! ha!

Good luck with your gardens!

Hey Java,
How did your garden do with Price's compost? Did you do the zoo blend, barnyard blend, or both? I think Im going to get both and blend them together. Im hoping Ill have a big enough pile of compost made next year that I wont need to buy any.

Thanks Don!

I use both, mixing them together. Bags are 1.5 cu ft each, if that's helpful. I would love to compost, and I seriously considered it, but I have such a small space that I'd be running all over the place collecting things to use, and at that rate I might as well just stop in at Price's a few times a year when we're up at the Zoo anyway.

They also have mushroom compost if you're interested.

I would love some of their mushroom compost, but it isnt bagged. I got my barn and zoo compost and some mulch today. Super friendly folks at Price farm. Im going to try to get my compost bin and SFG beds built today. I need to prune my grape vine & wisteria. So much to do! My roma tomatoes sprouted from the cat tray so all is not lost. Smile

Look at what I made today. I have to get some more screws though to finish it. I added a marble entrance to fancy it up, haha! Razz I assume I can start a pile without manure for now?

Ha, I told you I would ask a lot of questions. Do my seedlings look okay? I feel like they should be growing faster? Broccoli and tomatoes are roughly 2-3 wks old. I dont have my notebook on me at the moment. I think I need to leave my light on longer. I wonder if my light isnt close enough? I had it practically on top of the seedlings, but then that baby broccoli on the right started to shrivel so I was worried it was too close. I have the light about 2 inches above, but some seedlings are taller than others.

I'm new to the indoor seedling adventure. The stems look a little thin to me but again I'm new at this too. You've probably heard all the options, keep very close to light fixture, blowing on the stems, running a hand over them or running a fan to strengthen stems. At the moment I'm just blowing on mine. Y'know, full of hot air and all seems to help What a Face

They're starting to grow more leaves, so maybe they're ok. Some of the plants as seen in the pic still have their seed stuck to their stem? Ughhh I think Im over-thinking things.

LM- Where did you buy your strawberry plants from?

Boog- Often when Im googling for things in London I come across New London.

Haha! London is rural, but not that rural. I dont think this city girl could go that rural. London has a cute little town hence why we moved here.

I added a 2nd light next to the one I was using. Ive rearranged them by height and lowered the lights even closer. I did and will start brushing them lightly. Watered them, making sure Im keeping the lights on long enough, I think that covers it.

The pepper seeds my cat laid on didnt do so well. A lot of them didnt sprout, more than half. I have half the tray on a heat pad under them on high and the other half on the register, so they should be warm enough. I did start an extra tray of them the other day along with lettuce, so Im going to keep an extra eye on them. Smile

That's too bad about your peppers Sad
To answer your earlier question I received strawberries through a Shumway catalog last April. There were 50 little skinny bare root things but wow they really took off. The variety is called Earliglow. Since the box had space for 64 plants I added 10 un-named variety from Odd lots and 4 Quinalts from Home Depot.
