new things this year
I am a kentucky boy trying to raise veggies in south texas. I have raised beds but this year they will house my smartpots. I am using lady bug and happy frog soil it seems like they will be a good match but only time will tell. I really like the smart pots but i will have to get my watering schedule down which is very difficult for me. If anyone else has experience using either lady bug or happy frog products please let me know. thanks to everyone that has replied to my other questions however for Jane in DFW what is MM? My onions have been in the ground since October will they ever become a normal onion or am i doing something wrong?

MM = Mel's Mix, the Heart and Soul of Square Foot Gardening. This "soil" is better than any potting soil that you can purchase, in my opinion.

I had not heard of the Happy Frog, but I do know that some have used the Square Foot Gardening Blend from Lady Bug - there were some posts about it when I first started on the forum a few years ago. I believe instead of peat it uses coir in the mix with the compost and vermiculite.

Like GG said, some here have used it, but also found it lacking in enough nutrition. If your plants are being slow you can topdress with compost for a bit of a boost.
Be sure to recharge the garden mix with compost before planting this year.

It looks like the Happy Frog may just have the kick of nutrients you could be missing in the Lady Bug. Did you get the Happy Frog soil or Happy Frog soil conditioner?
