Birds eating bugs?
I had planted collards, broccoli, and cabbage a while back. Broccoli is starting to head. I had plenty of shredded leaves, so put a layer on this bed.
Each day I'd go out to water, and the leaves would be all over, and I'd have to rinse them off the cabbage so they wouldn't be inside the cabbage heads.
Yesterday I worked cleaning the beds, etc, and set down to rest in the back of the garden.
Here they came! Hundreds of little finches! They attacked those leaves, scratching like a dog, leaves just flying, getting , I hope, bugs, snails, from under the leaves, maybe leaving some droppings. I didn't see them carry off any worms.
I just laughed, found my leaf culprit. I hope they won't cause any health concerns. It sure was fun to watch. I'll have to take my camera out today.

I put a birdbath out beside my garden beds in the spring to bring in a few feathered friends. I've not seen them at work except that year my strawberry bed was not covered. When the berries started to turn red, they swarmed in and ate all my berries.
But I still like to have them flitting around catching the cabbage moth and the grasshppers so these days I just cover my berries.
