Hi...
I am new to gardening. I have an area of 30 Sq ft, covered by roof and two sides by walls. There is direct approach of sunlight at winter and in summers. This area is located at my home roof top. I am living in lahore (pakistan) , In summer temperature goes to 46C and in winter it is now 6 or 7 C.

I want to use this portion for planting, please let me know which kind of plant i must grow over there though i love to have fregnant plants or climbers. I also want to put effort for once and rest would like to maintain them.
Please help me in this

Greetings usmanarshad1, Welcome to the SFG Forum. you may get some advice here but the general nature of you questions would probably answered better at a different gardening forum or from gardeners in your area... I am not sure anything would grow without light under your roof. But please look through old threads here, you may find something of value.

Hi USMAN ,

Welcome to the site .
Can you get a picture of your garden including the shade roof set up and put them on the thread ?

Perhaps have a look on line via search engines for hot climate crops or hot humid climate crops depending on where you reside.

If you also look around your local markets where the produce is home grown you'll also have a fair idea of what you can try . From then it's as much a case of experimenting and see what works well for you .

Look in deeper to our site and see if you can learn to make your own compost .. There is no need to worry about acid / alkali or various nutrients if you make it as a balanced product using lists of materials such as are found in the " Berkley 18 day hot composting method "

Try to tell us how you get on with it all

Hello
thanks for your reply.
Well , I don't know weather it is stupid thing or not, but my gardening area is a roof of my house. I actually don't want to yield any thing but i am planning to setup a cage at there. An aviary type of cage. For this i need to moderate the temperature as in summer it goes to 46 C OR 90F with really warm blaze. and in winter it drops to 50F or 7C.
For the protection from high temp and blaze and blizz in the winter i decided to use numerous plants that could serve me the purpose.

Currently I cant plant any kind of grass as floor is made of marble but yes i can build up some long pots with help of bricks and soil.
Let me know the name of plants that could reduce the temperature and slow down the warm wind and also in winter their density could stop the cool breeze and produce some shelter .

Hope fully my idea is fine and i am not on wrong path.

Thanks & Marry Xmas
Usman
