Hi, I am not new to gardening but new to sfg. I have read and lurked all over and finally gave it a try this year. I have 7 4x4x12 boxes (room for one more). I know they didn't need to be 12" deep but they did have to look good according to my husband who built them, especially as they are along the garage in the backyard. We are both very pleased with how they look. It faces northwest and does not get sun until about noon but then it stays hot until the sun goes down. It hasn't stopped raining for 3 wks and its going to storm again tonite. Hot and steamy has been the norm.

The farthest box has asparagus. I plant 25 crowns, have a little gap in the middle but overall doing very well. The next box is 2 kinds of spuds, yukon gold and viking(?). I don't remember as I didn't have much choice. My husband thinks they are planted too close together but when I tested, I could feel a spud - yeah! Next I have a box of everbearing and then June bearing strawberries. I just watched a bird eat one so I definately need a cover. Next is my broccoli and cabbage. Oh boy, my cabbage are huge and seem way to big for the box. Any suggestions? Next is peppers, celery and beets. Still hopeful the beets will grow. Did not have much luck in the big garden either. Last but not least is my onions, kale, spinach, radishes and lettuce, and carrots. And one token eggplant. There are some empty squares as I am trying to fill up the strawberry boxes with offspring, cabbage worms got my second planting of an early type and the other squares I just missed. This picture is already a week old and things have really grown!

I have already learned about BT for the cabbage and that I should have it covered. I can not believe the things I learned on this site. Already have ideas for next year, and maybe using sfg boxes in the big garden. Baby steps according to my husband! The big garden is where I have corn, cukes, squash and tomotoes.

Ok, anyway, thanks for looking!

What a beautiful garden! Kudos to your husband for box design, and to you for growing success. It's such a learning process, isn't it?
