here are my grandson and my nephew planting pumpkins! A little early, but gave them something to do on Father's Day! They caught on to SFG easily. They are 3 and 12 years old Smile

I agree! I'm hoping they do well...To the right of the picture, is a hillside, so the "plan" is to let them run down the hillside Smile They planted Giant Pumpkins, "regular" pumpkins, Turks Turban, Wart pumpkins (my grandson called them lol), blue pumpkins, white baby boo pumpkins. The little white baby boos are soooo cute!

I'm glad to hear the kids are involved. I can't get my grkids to garden. Too busy with teenage stuff.

The only kind of pumpkins I grow are the New England Pie pumpkins since my Dau-in-law is a great cook. I sow mine in the community garden flat rows where they'll have plenty of room to roam. I'd have loved some of those cute white ones but forgot to order them. I'll remember for next year's order. Don't forget to take pics of all those varieties. I'd love to see them.

Great picture of granddau with baby boo 'kins. I didn't realize they were that small. Very cute. And the model is the most precious. Adorable.

update, for Josh in particular. The pumpkins didn't work. they sprouted, grew a bit, yellowed and sat there. One vine is about 8 feet long, the others never even crept out of the bed. We have some volunteers down back by our animals that have some, so the grandkids will get pumpkins from there. What is it that pumpkins dont like, and sunflowers DO like? The sunflowers in between the pumpkins are doing well, just not the pumpkins?? thinking

Well I didn't have any luck after Chubby died, the vine put on more pumpkins, they got a good size, then they would just died, the vine has died now also. I got off to such a supper big start!

I was sure your pumpkin vines would go down that hill and completely cover it and pumpkins would be everywhere!

It hasn't been a good year for pumpkin vines here where I live due to the drought we had, many of the pumpkin fields have few pumpkins in them and the vies are pitiful looking.

Looks like if we just get any pumpkin in the BIG STUFF photo gallery we will be doing good!

oh man, that's a bummer. I was looking forward to seeing a big one from you! I can see one down by the animals that looks about the size of a large basketball...maybe it will pull through, does it count if it's not in a SFG? Don't wanna cheat!!

Mine are pitiful, two are still alive, I think. I was naming them in alphabetical order then gave up toward the end. Amanda, then betty boop and carrie-oakie died. The last two I think are still going are "daydreamer" and "whatever". I stopped the vine at that point. My atlantic giants are atlantic misfits, a bit misshapen, more yellow than orange and maybe all of 10 pounds a piece fi I'm lucky. So much attn was given to them with no return to speak of. There is an annual pumpkin show nearby in October with 1,000 pounder + entries each year. Think this year I'll see if I can grab someone who will part with a secret or two.

that's too bad lllamamama. So frustrating. I think maybe I should just grow in old pig manure! that's where all my monster vines are growing?? Same with the massive tomato plant, aka, "The Beast" is growing out front lol. We have several "pumpkin farms" around our area, and they grow lots and lots of them, and all kinds of varieties too. I'd love to talk to them too!! Good luck!
