Cucumber conundrum

Probably not a conundrum, but still got me wondering. I have built the cages for my cukes and tomatoes and are aprox 20" diameter. Each of them will be in their own 2 x 2 square. I have read that only two plants per square, but since I am using a bigger cage...and not doing it in one single square, what would be the spacing of cuke seeds with this set up. I am starting from seed.

Since the spacing is 2/square, a safe bet would be 4 for 2 squares. However, after reading lots of threads here, you could probably get away with a higher density as long as they are trained well to your trellis. Being overly cautious, i don't think I would personally try more than 6 in that defined area, but the more experienced gardeners will let you know. Good Luck.

I plant at least 8 per square and the Mel's mix (and a good trellis) supports all those plants through the season.
