(Or other equally evil critter?) If so - suggestions on how to chase him away? (I know those didn't work out so well for Egypt in the Bible...)

I have seen him (or his friends) a few times now... Something is chomping on my garden and causing significant damage. This used to be a beautiful cucumber leaf. not so much any more.
Is this a locust? P1000011Yeah - I know there are leaf miners - but something is chomping around the edges of the leaves and taking parts off and leaving the edges all curled up and dead. It's happening on the cucumbers, beans, peppers and peas.

I was thinking about doing the garlic water thing... but I have seen a couple ladybugs around and I don't want to chase them away....

Locusts aren't actually a specific type of bug, believe it or not. It's a certain phase in the life cycle of a grass hopper! You do have a grass hopper there, though. I'm not really sure what kind of damage they do since I don't have them in my yard. Are any of your other leaves looking like that? It kind of looks to me like that particular leaf is just getting old and should be trimmed off. Good luck!

Coffee can full of grasshoppers + fishing pole + bobber = fun day fishing for bluegills.

Yup. Damage on peppers, cukes, beans and kale. I went out tonight with a flashlight and the only thing i saw in the garden were frogs. (Great big ones whe size of my fist.) But i dont think frogs eat plants, do they? As far as it being old - the garden is less than a month old - should i be pruning already?

I catch toads and turn them loose in the garden. They are bug munching machines...

We had a BIG problem with grasshoppers here last summer. Most of ours had more yellow/orange on them. Every time you walked across the grass you were bombarded. Even the chickens gave up on them! They devoured my beans, but I don't remember them eating the tomato leaves. I was told to set up a "bait" area away from the garden to kill them, but this works better the earlier you can start. I waited too late. Kill them or fish with them now, before they get out of hand. I was told the severity will vary year to year, so I'm hoping this is an "off" year for us! But, just in case, I have one of those electric bug zapping tennis rackets that I'm going to try on the ones that show up...ha ha, we'll see how that works. Twisted Evil If nothing else I'll get some aerobic activity!
