Mel Mix question
We are in our first year of SFG. Do we have to do anything to our mix when we start again next Spring?

Just add compost
Add a scoop of compost to each square and mix it up.

I dropped an entire 'bag' (blended) compost on the box and mixed it in....My MIL gave meThe Claw for my garden, she is older and doesn't get the SFG thing, I got to say it made mixing in my compost really easy

I don't have a fixed grid so what I do is remove old garden debris, then I put a wheel barrow or two full of compost on the top then mix it all together with a garden fork, level the mix, place grid and plant.
43 years a gardener and going strong with SFG.

Elementary question
I still have my compost(s)/vermiculite mix without the peat. Is that what I add to the squares after harvest? I didn't save any compost without vermiculite.....

Judy, save that blend and add peat for expansion. Until my compost pile produces enough, I am mixing a batch of 5 blend and storing in 18gal rubbermaid bins in the garage and under my tabletops.

Kay, even with the vermiculite in it---or do I need to make up a small batch of 5 Blend (which would mean finding it all again--groan!)??

Sorry, but your beds don't need any more vermiculite added, just compost. But the good news is, you don't need it until you are ready to replant squares. That gives you some time to collect your blend.
